New research facility is ready for use

A facility for the propagation of European eel was inaugurated 9. May 2016 at DTU in Hirtshals. Here, researchers and industry work on developing the technology necessary to enable future commercial production of eel larvae independent of wild-caught eels. The research facility was officially inaugurated by, Ulla Tørnæs, Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science.

The conference Aquaculture Europe 2015 on 20-23 October 2015 in Rotterdam, Netherlands included several EEL-HATCH presentations on eel larval research.

EEL-HATCH research facility established
September 2015
In September 2015, the new breeding and hatchery building at the North Sea Science Park in Hirtshals was established and the project activities moved from the former facilities at Lyksvad Fish Farm near Kolding to the new facilities. The EEL-HATCH Steering Group met 8 September to further plan equipping the facility with breeding and larval culture systems. First experiments in the new surroundings are expected to start November 2015.

Topping-out ceremony at new research facilities
March 2015
On 4 March 2015 a topping-out ceremony was held at the building site of the new EEL-HATCH research facilities at North Sea Science Park, Hirtshals.
